I have uploaded packages of Firebird from the R2_5_0
tag in SVN to Debian/experimental. No guarantees these will match the official release, but may be worth a try for those who want to live on the edge.

I have tested the new Firebird 2.5 SuperClassic package on Debian sid and wrote the install instructions (Flamerobin and screenshots are included in the mini guide)
If you wonder how Firebird 2.1.3 stable can be compiled on Freebsd 8.1 wonder no more , Here is the thread with patches and instructions needed .
He does have some nice tutorials on the website with Freepascal and extJS
The next release of Ubuntu will have an updated package for firebird with one hard to detect bug fixed (the Classic install one)
Seems to be a popular (12th place on DistroWatch ) distro based on Debian
Firebird-2.5 will be available this evening in the MEPIS 8.5 testing Community Repository.
New version for flamerobin 0.9.3 is now in Debian experimental for testing

Kinterbasdb 3.3.0 stable driver is included in Debian Squeeze (Testing) and Sid (Unstable)
Update : is now included in Ubuntu Lucid Lynx
You can install it by a simple:
sudo apt-get install python-kinterbasdb
Firebird 2.5 rc1 package is now uploaded and accepted into debian experimental repository.

Update:package is reuploaded , some pdf documentation didn’t had the source in the tar, and for the moment the pdf blobs are removed
Damyan Ivanov requested from us to test the new Firebird 2.5 (almost rc1) packages on Debian based distros (Ubuntu)
I have updated the HowTo build the packages from Git repository.
There are still known big issues but you can start testing and give feedback on Firebird Debian list
