2006 was a great year for software. I thought I would make my first post of the new year as a review of the software that was released last year that caught my interest. This is software that I think will have an impact on the world (some big, some small). It is not necessarily software that I use on a regular basis (or at all :).

SEFIP is an application used by almost 1.5 millions of companies in Brazil to collect/pay social welfare tributes. It is distributed by Caixa Econômica Federal (a federal bank), and in its latest version (8.3) it replaced InterBase 6.0 with Firebird. With this change, Firebird embedded installed servers base in Brazil grow in some millions.
