Next step for world domination : Do you think that Firebird should create new documentation ?

Since Intebase 6 release of the source code, Firebird created a lot of changes and additions to the engine.

The only updates that we see today, are small references for new or changed features for specific version.

Further more, the time has changed, and wiki, and other format of documentation should also be in place, including the ability of users to comment and even share how to things in the proper page.

So what do you think on this ?

  • There are no document writers who could do it.
Wiki is useless for the same reason – there are no writers, only readers.

    • Do you know how the syntax goes ?
Can you provide example on your knowledge ?

If you answered “yes” for at least on of the two questions, then you can help document things imho.

Core developers also can help a lot here, and actually every one who uses Firebird, including all of the consultant out there that provide support for Firebird. You have a vast knowledge about the database, but everyone write it on their own personal web site, or business web site etc…

  • Firebird has such approach for years, and you know the results. Core developers need to code, not to write docs.
We need to hire docwriting professionals, and then organize community to help in their work.

  • The current documentation situation ,frankly, is a mess. Everything someone new needs to get started is scattered through ancient IB6 documentation, release notes, reference manuals.
To someone new to FB, this leaves not the best impression. MySQL on the other hand, has very good online reference documentation while being a poor excuse for a database.
In my opinion, there should be a searchable online reference covering everything about FB without drawing the line between IB6 and Firebird. If there is a way for me to help making this happen, someone drop me a line.
