Then they laugh at you
Not only does open source Firebird-Fyracle have a catchy name and almost match Oracle on the 6 well known “gold standard key database evaluation mapping criteria”, but it is “just as idiosyncratic”, AND you can run “Compiere v2.5.3c” ( almost )!
Here is the response from shocked oracle users after they found Firebird/Fyracle (Denial Mode)
Well, he’s right in observing that the web page for Fyracle (the whole site indeed) is in need of a major overhaul. The current stuff dates back to Summer 2004, with minor updates.
The “faster on the same hardware” is true in a context. Back in 2004 people were evaluating Compiere, running everyting on one (desktop) box, using Oracle 9i. They found that a Fyracle based stack was more responsive.
The recent TPC-R tests showed that FB2 is similar to Oracle 9. Looking forward to seeying TPC-R and TPC-C tests for FB2 vs. the express editions of Oracle, SQLServer and DB2. Note that current Fyracle releases are based on FB15, and that a switch to FB2 will probably not occur until the end of this year.

Hmmm… I guess the 3rd part is ’round the corner.
